Especially good for birdwatching, these binoculars are also great for taking on safari or simply out walking the dog as they greatly enhance the experience. Unfortunately the general rule is the larger the binoculars the better they are, although it really does depend on how well the optics have been manufactured. Light gathering power and magnification are the two main components for a good pair of binoculars, but more magnification doesn't mean a better image. Always check the objective lens measurement (the lenses at the opposite end to the eyepieces) and if it is small, then the optics have to be extra special to cope with the lack of light. That's where the Leica compact style of binocular come in to their own, as they maintain edge to edge quality as well as colour rendition, even though they are only 20mm or 25mm. The larger style binoculars are really well balanced, making them comfortable to use and can be used with a harness, if going out for the day.
