Sigma 500mm F5.6 DG DN OS Sports Lens for Sony E

The Sigma 500mm F5.6 DG DN OS Sports for Sony E is a compact super-telephoto prime for full-frame mirrorless cameras. At 1365g it is light enough to hand-hold for long periods on an a7 IV, a7C II or a7R V, which suits birds in flight, wildlife hides and motorsport.

Small for a 500mm It weighs about the same as many 100-400mm zooms, so you can walk with it all day and shoot without a tripod.

Optical design

There are 20 elements in 14 groups, including three FLD and two SLD elements, in a fully refractive design.

Stabilisation and autofocus

OS2 stabilisation gives up to 5 stops (CIPA) with a panning mode, and an HLA linear motor drives fast autofocus. There is a focus limiter and three AFL buttons.

Handling

There is an aperture ring with a click switch and a lock, a detachable Arca-Swiss compatible tripod socket with 90 degree clicks, and a dust- and splash-resistant body. Sigma's teleconverters are L-Mount only, so they do not fit this Sony E version.

Who it's for

This is for wildlife photographers who want prime sharpness and reach in a portable lens. The Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS adds zoom flexibility, and the Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS is brighter but much heavier.
