The Sigma 12mm F1.4 DC Contemporary for Canon RF is the widest lens in Sigma's fast APS-C prime range, giving a 19.2mm equivalent view with an F1.4 aperture. Sigma describes it as the first autofocus 12mm F1.4 for APS-C. It weighs 225g and is 69.4mm long, so on an EOS R7, R10 or R50 it makes a small, very wide kit for night skies, interiors and vlogging.
Wide-angle lenses often smear stars at the edge of the frame into wing shapes, an effect called sagittal coma flare. Sigma has designed this lens to keep it low, so stars stay as points into the corners at F1.4. The bright aperture lets you keep exposures short enough to avoid star trails while holding the ISO down.
There are 14 elements in 12 groups, including two SLD and three aspherical elements, to control distortion and colour fringing across a 99.6 degree field of view. A nine-blade rounded aperture keeps out-of-focus highlights round when you focus close.
A stepping motor gives quiet, smooth focusing for video and works with the camera's face and eye detection. At arm's length the 12mm view shows plenty of background around you, which makes it a good walk-and-talk vlogging lens.
At 225g and 69.4mm long it adds very little to the camera, and it takes 62mm filters. It focuses as close as 17.2cm, so you can get right up to a foreground subject and still show the whole scene behind it.
This is for night sky, interior and architecture shooters, and for vloggers who want a really wide view. The R7 has in-body stabilisation; the R10 and R50 do not, but at this focal length handheld shake is much less of a problem than with longer lenses. If you want a slightly less extreme wide angle for everyday use, the Sigma 15mm F1.4 DC is the next step in.
Also available for Sony E and Fujifilm X.

It gives the same view as a 19.2mm lens on a full-frame camera.
Yes. It was designed to keep sagittal coma flare low, so stars stay sharp towards the corners, and F1.4 keeps exposures short.
Yes. At arm's length the wide view fits you and your surroundings in the frame, and the stepping motor focuses quietly.
The 12mm is noticeably wider, at 19.2mm equivalent, and better for astro and interiors. The 15mm is a more natural everyday wide angle for street and travel.
No, it relies on in-body stabilisation where the camera has it.
