The Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary for L-Mount is a compact full-frame standard zoom with a constant F2.8 aperture. At launch in 2021 Sigma described it as the smallest and lightest lens in its class, and at 470g it keeps a Lumix S5II, Sigma BF or Leica SL3 easy to carry for travel, events, portraits and everyday shooting.

Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary for L-Mount, optical design

Optical design

The design is derived from Sigma's 24-70mm F2.8 Art with a slightly shorter range. There are 16 elements in 12 groups, including two FLD, two SLD and three aspherical elements.

Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary for L-Mount, light and compact

Light and compact

The barrel uses Sigma's Thermally Stable Composite, and it takes small 67mm filters. It is roughly half the weight of a typical 24-70mm F2.8.

Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary for L-Mount, close focus

Close focus

It focuses down to 19cm at 28mm, for a maximum magnification of 1:3.3.

Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary for L-Mount, autofocus

Autofocus

A stepping motor moves a single light focus element, so focusing is quick and quiet for stills and video.

Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary for L-Mount, who it's for

Who it's for

This is for photographers who want F2.8 in a standard zoom without the weight. The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN adds a wider 24mm end and more professional features, and the Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN completes a light two-lens kit.
