The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X is a light, constant-aperture standard zoom that pairs well with Fujifilm's smaller bodies. It covers a 27-75mm equivalent range, stays at F2.8 throughout and weighs 290g. Fitted to an X-T5, X-S20, X-T50 or X-M5 it makes a compact everyday kit that still handles low light and portraits.
Inside are 13 elements in 10 groups, one of them SLD glass and three of them aspherical, which keep the lens sharp from edge to edge and hold back chromatic aberration. Super Multi-Layer Coating helps with flare and ghosting in backlit scenes, and a petal hood is included. The rounded seven-blade aperture gives a gentle background blur at F2.8.
A stepping motor drives the autofocus quietly and quickly, and it supports the subject and face detection on current Fujifilm bodies. Focusing happens inside the lens, so its length stays the same and the filter thread does not turn. Fujifilm's in-camera corrections are supported.
The lens focuses as close as 12.1cm at 18mm, for a 1:2.8 magnification ratio, which is enough to fill the frame with a flower head or a plate of food. At 50mm the closest focus is 30cm.
The outer barrel is Thermally Stable Composite over an aluminium inner structure, two materials that expand at a similar rate, so the lens performs consistently as temperatures change. The brass mount carries a rubber seal against dust and splashes, and the filter thread is 55mm.
Fujifilm shooters should know that this lens has no aperture ring, so aperture is set with the camera's command dial instead. In return you get an F2.8 zoom that is lighter than Fujifilm's own XF 16-55mm F2.8 and well suited to travel, street and family photography. The X-T5, X-S20 and X-T50 have in-body stabilisation; the X-M5 does not, and the lens has none of its own. If you want a brighter lens for video and low light, the Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC Art for Fujifilm X is over a stop faster. The Tamron 16-50mm F2.8 for Fujifilm X starts a little wider at 16mm.
Also available for Sony E, Canon RF and L-Mount.
Sigma also makes the 16mm F1.4, 30mm F1.4 and 56mm F1.4 DC DN primes for Fujifilm X.

No. You set the aperture with the camera's command dial, as with any Fujifilm lens that has no ring.
Fujifilm X sensors have a 1.5x crop, so it gives the same view as a 27-75mm lens on full frame.
No. The X-T5, X-S20 and X-T50 have in-body stabilisation that works with it. On the X-M5 there is no stabilisation for stills, but the F2.8 aperture allows faster shutter speeds.
The Fujifilm lens starts wider at 16mm, has an aperture ring and is weather resistant throughout. The Sigma is smaller and lighter at 290g, which suits the smaller X bodies better.
The Tamron starts at 16mm, a 24mm equivalent, and weighs 305g. The Sigma is shorter and focuses much closer, 12.1cm against 15cm.
The 17-40mm is over a stop brighter but weighs 535g and is 115.9mm long. The 18-50mm keeps a small Fujifilm body small.
55mm.
