The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary is a standard zoom for Sony's APS-C cameras that keeps the whole kit small. It covers 27-75mm in full-frame terms, holds F2.8 at every focal length and weighs 290g, about the same as a typical kit zoom but with a much brighter aperture. On an a6700, a6400 or ZV-E10 it is the lens most people will simply leave on the camera.

Image qualitySigma uses 13 elements in 10 groups, including one SLD and three aspherical elements, to keep colour fringing and distortion under control through the zoom range. Super Multi-Layer Coating cuts flare when you shoot into the light, and a petal hood comes in the box. The seven-blade rounded aperture gives smooth, round out-of-focus highlights at F2.8. |

Autofocus and videoA stepping motor drives focus quickly and almost silently, which matters if you film with the camera's built-in microphone. Focusing is internal, so the lens does not change length or turn at the front as it focuses. It works with Sony's Eye AF, real-time tracking, DMF and in-camera lens corrections. |

Close-up shootingAt 18mm the lens focuses down to 12.1cm, giving a 1:2.8 reproduction ratio. That is close enough for food, flowers and product shots without buying a macro lens. At 50mm the minimum distance is 30cm. |

BuildThe barrel is made from Sigma's Thermally Stable Composite, which holds its shape as temperatures change, and the mount is brass with a rubber seal against dust and splashes. It measures 65.4 x 74.5mm and takes 55mm filters. |

Who it's forThis is the upgrade for anyone still using the kit zoom that came with their camera who wants better low-light results and softer backgrounds without adding weight. It suits travel, family photos and everyday content on a ZV-E10. There is no optical stabilisation, so on bodies without in-body stabilisation, such as the a6400 and ZV-E10, walking video will lean on the camera's electronic stabilisation. If you shoot mostly indoors and size matters less, the Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC Art gathers more than a stop more light. If you want a wider view, the Tamron 16-50mm F2.8 starts at 16mm. |
Also available for Canon RF, Fujifilm X and L-Mount.

No. It is a DC lens, made for APS-C sensors. It will mount on a full-frame Sony a7 camera, but the camera switches to APS-C crop mode and you lose resolution.
About 27-75mm, which covers the same ground as the 24-70mm zooms most full-frame photographers use.
No. On the a6700, a6600 and a6500 the camera's in-body stabilisation steadies it. On the a6400 and ZV-E10 you rely on a sensible shutter speed for stills and the camera's electronic stabilisation for video.
For filming other people and places, yes: it is quiet, light and fast to focus. For talking to camera at arm's length, 18mm is fairly tight, and the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 gives a much wider view.
The Tamron is a little wider at 16mm and slightly heavier at 305g. The Sigma is smaller and focuses much closer, 12.1cm against 15cm, which makes it the better choice for close-ups.
The 17-40mm is over a stop brighter, but weighs 535g and is far longer at 115.9mm. The 18-50mm is the one to choose if you want the camera to stay small.
55mm.
The mount has a rubber seal against dust and splashes. It is not sealed throughout, so treat it with care in heavy rain.
The LH582-02 petal hood, front cap and rear cap.
