The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary for L-Mount is an APS-C standard zoom that turns a full-frame L-Mount camera into a very small walkaround setup. It gives a 27-75mm equivalent view, a constant F2.8 aperture and weighs 290g. It is aimed at Sigma fp and BF owners, and at Leica CL and TL2 users, who want one light lens for everyday shooting.

Image qualityIts 13 elements in 10 groups include one SLD and three aspherical elements, which keep colour fringing and distortion low through the zoom range. Super Multi-Layer Coating helps it hold contrast against bright light, and a petal hood is supplied. Seven rounded aperture blades give smooth background blur at F2.8. |

Autofocus and videoA stepping motor provides quiet, fast autofocus that suits video as well as stills. The internal focusing design means the lens stays the same length while it focuses, and it is supported by in-camera lens corrections. |

Close-up shootingAt 18mm it focuses to 12.1cm for a 1:2.8 magnification ratio, close enough for details, food and small objects without a dedicated macro lens. At 50mm the closest focus is 30cm. |

BuildSigma's Thermally Stable Composite barrel keeps the weight down and the brass mount is sealed with rubber against dust and splashes. The lens measures 65.4 x 74.5mm and takes 55mm filters. |

Who it's forBecause this is an APS-C lens, full-frame L-Mount bodies such as the Lumix S5II, Sigma fp and Sigma BF switch to APS-C crop mode when it is fitted, which brings a 24MP camera down to roughly 10MP. That is plenty for web use and small prints, and it gives you one of the smallest bright zooms on the system. Leica CL and TL2 owners use the full sensor. If you want full-frame coverage, look at the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN instead. For a much longer range on APS-C, the Sigma 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 covers wide to super telephoto, and the Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC Art is the brighter choice. |
Also available for Sony E, Canon RF and Fujifilm X.

Yes. The Lumix S5II, Sigma fp, Sigma BF and Leica SL cameras switch to APS-C crop mode with it, so a 24MP camera records at roughly 10MP. Leica CL and TL2 bodies, which are APS-C, use their full sensor.
In APS-C mode it gives a 27-75mm full-frame equivalent view.
It is one of the smallest bright zooms you can fit, and at 290g it keeps the camera small. The trade-off is the APS-C crop, so if you need the full resolution, a full-frame lens such as the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN is the better match.
No. On the Lumix S5II the camera's in-body stabilisation steadies it. The Sigma fp and BF have no in-body stabilisation, so use a sensible shutter speed or the camera's electronic stabilisation for video.
The 17-40mm is over a stop brighter but weighs 535g and is 115.9mm long. The 18-50mm is the choice if size is the priority.
55mm.
The mount has a rubber seal against dust and splashes. It is not sealed throughout, so take care in heavy rain.
The LH582-02 petal hood, front cap and rear cap.
