With a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range and a 3-stop Image Stabilizer, the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM provides outstanding performance and framing flexibility in low light conditions. It provides an effective focal length range of approximately 27-136mm in 35mm format, making it extremely versitile, along with effective background blur due to the circular aperutre.
The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens has an ultra Sonic Motor which is quiet and fast and the three stop Image Stabaliser is great for reducing camera shake. It is a compact, lightweight lens, making it ideal for travelling and the ring-type USM works perfectly with the EOS mount to provide predictive focusing, so each shot has a chance of being absolutely pin-sharp.
The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens has been designed specifically for digital photography, as it has sepcially shaped elements and super spectra coatings which help to supress ghosting and flare which can be caused by reflections comming from the sensor on the camera. The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens passes distance information back to a compatible EOS camera's E-TTL II flash system to ensure optimal flash metering, which is ideal for photogrpahers who need to get the picture fast without worrying about exposure.
