Description

This is the new introduction to the Leica M family. Being slimmer in size, faster in performance and offers the best image quality with smarter connectivity for intuitive use. Leica sets new standards for rangefinder photography and state-of-the-art imaging. More than 60 years of rangefinder expertise, 11 years of digital M-Camera development and the excellent feedback from dedicated M-Photographers in order to bring the most refined rangefinder Leica has ever created. One of the most striking changes with this camera is the ISO setting dial on the top plate. Allowing essential shooting parameters such as distance, aperture and exposure time to be preselected without having to use the menu or switch on the camera.

Features a 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor which has been developed specifically for this camera. It features new technologies which lead to significant improvements. The new sensor extends the ISO sensitivity range from a base of 100 to a maximum of 50,000 with much improved performance and less noise at higher ISO values. The latest generation of Leica Maestro-II image processor reflects the best of the advanced processor technology. Delivers images with low digital noise levels and true-to-life detail, even at ISO values as high as 50,000. The new optical viewfinder improves the focusing and composing of subjects. The field of view has been enlarged by 30%, the magnification increased to 0.73x and with a 50% increase of the eye-relief distance, the viewfinder is extremely convenient to use for those who wear glasses.

With a slimmer profile and only three buttons on the back of the camera - Live-View, Playback and Menu, is incredibly easy to handle and use. With a 2GB buffer memory and continuous shooting of up to 5 frames per second at full resolution, ensures that a photographer will never miss decisive moments. The camera’s top and bottom plates are manufactured from solid blocks of brass, with a full-metal magnesium-alloy chassis and scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass covering the LCD, the build of the camera and its special rubber seals make it able to resist the harshness of everyday life, even in bad weather. The first M-Camera with an integrated Wi-Fi module. This allows pictures to be sent conveniently to iOS devices via a wireless connection and immediately shared online. You can allow use your device as a remote control of the camera via Wi-Fi. Shooting parameters, such as shutter speed, or functions such as firing the shutter can also be controlled from your device.

The combination of the Leica R-Adapter and the Leica Visoflex 2.4 MP electronic viewfinder makes it possible to use nearly all Leica R-Lenses ever made. Manually focusing R-Lenses is now easier than on prior M cameras with the combination of the Visoflex and the improved Live-View functions. Additionally, the Visoflex’s built-in GPS functionality embeds geotag data into every image the camera captures while it is mounted.

    Flash Exposure Control

Flash Unit Attachment Via accessory shoe with central and control contacts
Synchronization Optionally triggered at the 1st or 2nd Shutter curtain
Flash Sync Time 1/180s; slower shutter speeds can be used, if working below sync speed: Automatic changeover to TTL linear flash mode with HSS compatible Leica system flash units
Flash Exposure Metering Using center-weighted TTL pre-flash metering with Leica flash units (SF40, SF64, SF26), or flash units compatible with the system with SCA3502 M5 adapter

    Viewfinder

Construction Principle Large, bright line frame viewfinder with automatic parallax compensation
Eyepiece Calibrated to -0.5 diopter; corrective lenses from -3 to +3 diopter available
Image Field Limiter By activating two bright lines each: For 35 and 135mm, for 28 and 90mm, or for 50 and 75mm; automatic switching when lens is attached
Parallax Compensation The horizontal and vertical difference between the viewfinder and the lens is automatically compensated according to the relevant distance setting, i.e. the viewfinder bright-line automatically aligns with the subject detail recorded by the lens.
Matching Viewfinder & Actual Image At a range setting of 2m, the bright-line frame size corresponds exactly to the sensor size of approx. 23.9 x 35.8mm; at infinity setting, depending on the focal length, approx. 7.3% (28mm) to 18% (135mm) more is recorded by the sensor than indicated by the corresponding bright line frame and slightly less for shorter distance settings than 2m
    Magnification (For all lenses) 0.73x
Large-base Range Finder Split or superimposed image range finder shown as a bright field in the center of the viewfinder image
