A Brief History
Whether in analogue or digital photography, the best results are always achieved when using filters at the time of taking the photograph and not when manipulating on computer software back in the office, as once any unwanted light or colour is recorded, then the ability to remove it affects other parts of the image. Heliopan filters are made in Germany under very strict rules and regulations, to ensure that each filter is manufactured to the highest possible standards. All the raw materials are sourced for their quality, from the brass that is used in the metal retaining rings, to the German Schott Glass, which offers un-rivalled clarity and performance. The carefully thought-out matt black rims on the filters mean less intrusive light reflection and all the filters have at least one high quality hard coating on each filter side to reduce stray light, maintain high contrast and avoid flare. Reflections are reduced from 8% to 2.5% for each 'glass to air surface on each side of the filter and the SH-PMC filters have the added advantage of an extra top coating which is dust and moisture repellent, making the filters easier to look after. The Schott glass group manufactures glass for a wide range of products, including medical and laser glass and glass used in applications where radiation is used, so they have outstanding expertise in the area of optical brilliance. The company continually updates its manufacturing processes, to reflect the changing technology that is constantly improving standards across the board.
